Warrior LEadership Youth Snorkel Hand-Harvesting Program Information:

Through academic, confined water and open water settings the participants of these programs enjoy and connect with the aquatic world. Through these sessions a level of in water comfort is found connecting the youth to the beauty of that environment. With this confidence and the knowledge learnt throughout the program the goal is to have its participants, come the end of the program, calmly enjoying and confidently harvesting from their local coastal environments.

In the classroom the youth will learn about snorkelling equipment, in-water safety, species identification and snorkel-harvesting technique from a sustainable and ethical approach. With the support of one of our Partners, the Ucluelet Aquarium, the youth have the opportunity to enjoy and experience species identification in real time while being dry on land before entering in the water. To be able to observe the local species in their tanks in a stress-free environment before entering the water allows the youth to relax and learn in comfort.

In the confined water we will put the knowledge learnt in the academics to use as we introduce practical skills. The final day of the program involves a snorkelling adventure where the youth are lead on a sheltered water snorkelling tour. Here they are introduced to in-water species identification and hand harvesting techniques where they will begin to practice and hone in those previously learnt confined water skills in hopes of leading them to a successful harvest.

Equipment Fundraising Initiative: Clayoquot Biosphere Trust Charitable Donations Portal

Riffe International and Spearfishing Canada are supporting this fundraising initiative by facilitating the gear on behalf of the Warrior Leadership Program at heavily discounted pricing to make the top quality equipment and “Seafood Harvesting Kits” supplied by these two companies accessible to the Warrior Leadership Youth and it’s participants.

The tier structure is to provide a tangible vision of the gear that you could be supporting to give a youth to get in the water. Any amount donated helps and is appreciated to support this initiative. These funds will be allocated in an accumulative manner to achieve the overall goal of 36 kits as we work towards making the water more accessible for the Warrior Leadership Youth and to be able to provide for the people in their remote communities. Thank you for supporting these young people.
