BOTTOM DWELLERS

Bottom Dwellers Freediving offers Freediving & Freedive-Harvesting/Spearfishing instruction as well as Charter Packages. Learn to Freedive for whatever application you seek in a controlled environment while in the company of a freediving professional. Bottom Dwellers' students are trained with a focus in risk management, preparing them to deal with and handle many of the risks associated with breath-hold diving.

In class, confined water and open water sessions you’ll:

Learn to freedive following “Safe-Buddy” freediving practices
Learn proper freediving practices and breath-hold techniques
Learn about freediving specific equipment, techniques and the fundamentals of physiology and physics of freediving in a classroom setting

In Bottom Dwellers Freedive-Harvesting Programs you’ll build upon the freediving skillsets and adapt them to marine harvesting applications with a focus on sustainable and ethical harvesting practices. You'll learn about local marine life, rules and regulations, risk management and valuable techniques and skillsets (including band-powered device handling) for freedive-harvesting and spearfishing.

About

Bottom Dwellers was founded by local Vancouver Island resident, Chris Adair, in the summer of 2017. Chris' mission as a passionate freediver/spearfisherman and owner/operator of Bottom Dwellers is to help the freediving community grow into a safer and stronger entity. Bottom Dwellers instructs the Performance Freediving International system which is known for paving the way in Safety Protocols in the world of freediving internationally since 2000. It is through providing an educational foundation centred around safety, technique and sustainable and ethical harvesting practices that Bottom Dwellers is helping the community grow into a safer and stronger community, filled with capable and aware freedivers. Bottom Dwellers offers a variety courses ranging from snorkelling at the surface do freediving to depths of 40m. There is a wide range of courses available to help find the right fit for your aquatic desires and needs. Whether you want to hone your freediving skills to enjoy cruising the cold beautiful waters of the Pacific North West, get experience for a warm water trip or learn to use your Freediving skills for Freedive-Harvesting/Spearfishing purposes, or dip your toes in the water and get your bearings with an advanced snorkeler program Bottom Dwellers has a course for you. Whales and freediving expeditions:

Bottom Dwellers hosts and offers a variety of different expeditions with partners around the world. Through the locally established platforms we provide our freediving family with unforgettable experiences in and out of the water in some of the most beautiful places around the globe.

Warrior Leadership Program:
Snorkel-Harvesting & Polespearing

Bottom Dwellers has been supporting the Youth Warrior Leadership Program in facilitating in-water programs and mentoring for Nuu-Chah-Nulth since 2021. The intention of these programs is to create a safe and inclusive space for these youth to learn and re-connect with their local in water environments while finding new ways to access to hereditary cultural food sources. Through the skills and knowledge learnt in these programs they will build the confidence needed to support and provide for their local communities with their bounty and harvest.

Get Connected with the Bottom Dwellers Community and Stay informed with all things Bottom Dwellers coming down the Line! From Courses to Breath and Gear Workshops this is where you’ll hear about it first! Bottom Dwellers offers 'Coaching', ‘Pool sessions’ and 'Line Diving' sessions to take your freediving to the next level. Have a freediving professional work with you in coaching sessions on specific details, sharpening your skills and breathold as a freediver while keeping those safety and risk management practices sharp. Coaching sessions are a great way for the freediver student to complete skill sets needed to pass their Performance Freediving International certification.

Are you a certified freediver? Our closed facebook group is where we’ll get our Coaching, Line Diving and Pool Sessions started most of the time. Guiding and Charters for freediving, spearfishing and snorkelling are booked and built specifically to your groups needs. Name the location and the group size and we’ll build the package that’s right for you! South Island, West Coast, North Island… you name it and we’ll build it!
